A sad holiday season for parents and kids in Iraq and the USA

Christmas is a time for joy and gift giving. Even if you are not a Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu...joy and gift giving should always be a cool thing to have and do.

But, there is no joy in Muddville to paraphrase the old Casey to the Bat saga.

There are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brorthers and sisters here and in Iraq that will never see a loved one again, thanks to the madness in Iraq.

The Iraqi conflict is NOT WWII, not WW I, not WW III. Whether they are terrorists, insurgents, or freedom fighters, they do not want us there.

In fact, if memory serves, a recent poll of Iraqi citizens found 85 percent do not want us there.

Spreading freedom? Spreading democracy? HAH!

Freedom is the absense of contstraints. Is there such a thing as partial freedom? Do people in prison have "partial freedom" because they can talk and move their arms and legs.

The USA is NOT a democracy. It is a republic, or more accurately, a constitutional republic.

It doesn't matter if we are there one more year, or another hundred years. The eastern view of history is a long one. The Muslims are STILL pissed off about the Crusades, centuries later!

Like a river waiting for a small crack in a damn, the indigenous insurgents will start civil war as soon as they see an opportunity. There WILL BE NO lasting peace, no lasting democracy there.

But, every day we are there costs our country more lives of our sons and daughters, and brings more Muslims into the insurgent's camp. We are some of the best recruiters that Al Qaeda has.

Unfortunately, this is like a person with a gambling problem, betting everything they have on trying to win back their lost money.

The intelligent person knows when to cut his or her losses. The intelligent person knows how to find the point of diminishing returns.

But then again, our President is the best argument against Intelligent Design I can think of...
